My Car, A Limited Edition 1997 Toyota Supra Turbo

This is a picture of my automobile (actually, it is a stock publicity photo, but mine looks just like it). It is a 15th Anniversary Limited Edition 1997 Toyota Supra Turbo, and yes I love it! There were only about 2500 of these made, and it took me nearly two full months just to find one. You also may notice that this car had occasionally served as the pace car for many IRC (Indy) racing events.

Engine: It has a 3.0 liter twin-cam 24-valve EFI inline 6-cylinder engine with twin sequential turbos; this baby can pump out 320 horsepower and a whopping 315 lbs-ft of torque. This rocket can reach a sustained 180 MPH!

Transmission: A super smooth 6-speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential.

Suspension: A road hugging tight 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension. Working with the massive tires, this car can achieve almost a full 1.0g of cornering capability (except on ice).

Braking: Four oversized 12.6 inch spiral-vented disc brakes, with 4 pistons on the front and two on the rear. There's not much out there that's going to any stop quicker, and it is fade resistant too.

Tires: One word, "big". It sports 17 inch polished aluminum wheels with an amazing set of low profile unidirectional 235/45 on the front and 255/40 on the rear, all Z-speed rated. I dread the day I have to replace these, because they are very hard to find and are expensive :-(

Other: Curb weight is 3,505 lbs., with a respectable front/rear weight distribution ratio of 53/47. Also has full-time anti-lock brakes and a selectable traction control system. Although it does require premium gasoline (92+ octane) I do regularly get 22 to 24 MPG.

Luxuries: It is packed, almost everything comes standard, power everything, with color being about the only choice there is to make. The nicest feature is the removable sport roof which gives you all the open-air advantages of a convertible, yet it can be quickly bolted back into place to give the body the full rigidity required for aggressive driving manuevers. Also comes with a full leather interior, 7 speaker in-dash CD player with external amplifier, power driver's seat, and more.

Downsides: No cup holders! Of course, one magazine review said that was how you knew it was a serious high-performance sports car. The trunk is almost non-existent, it is about all of about 10 inches deep. Also, it doesn't like winter snow very well; in fact I got stuck in the parking lot here at work one night and couldn't leave until the next day.
